The Government of India has asked the micro-blogging platform Twitter to provide information about the 474 account. Along with this, the government has also requested to close 504 accounts or remove their contents in violation of the law during the first six months of this year.

According to Twitter's recent transparency report, it helped the Indian government in five per cent of the information request cases and took cognizance of a total of six per cent of the cases on the request to delete the account.

A total of 1,268 Twitter accounts were asked by India to request information and to remove 2,484 accounts. The Government of India requested information for 422 Twitter accounts during the period July to December 2018. While law enforcement agencies appealed for the removal of 667 accounts from the micro-blogging platform for violating the law.

This time also the US government was at the forefront of requesting for information about the account. During the review period, the United States made a total of 29 per cent of requests for information on global requests. The company reported a 48 percent increase in accounts reported for potential violations under its personal information policies.

The company said, "We have suspended 119 per cent more accounts than the previous reporting period." Twitter suspended a total of two lakh 44 thousand 188 accounts for violations related to child sexual abuse during this period.
