TRAI process on Set-top box portability for customer benefits

USNMix Report: TRAI statement gives that the facility of set-top box portability
will begun by the end of 2019.

At present, if a customer wants to change his service provider then he has to spend a substantial amount of money to buy that company's set top box. Apart from this the old set-top box becomes unusable and becomes an electronic waste.

Broadcast Regulatory TRAI said on Friday that it is considering all options to make the TV set-top box portability possible. The regulator has hoped that in collaboration with the industry, it will take its route by the end of this year. This step is important. This is because set-top box customers are tied to the company after taking service of a TV DTH service provider because every company's set top box is different.

Regarding the new system of payment of DTH and cable services in accordance with the channel, the regulator said that this will help in selecting the best option available in the market. TRAI said that the issue of portability of set-top boxes is very important in making the market more open and competitive and providing more options to customers.
