Telecom Ministry is engaged
in the process of inviting tenders for spectrum auction and tender related
notice may be issued in September. While spectrum auction may take place in
November. This information was given by official sources. Sources said that
preparations for tender invitation information are going on along with the
major programs of the ministry, including the 5G spectrum trials allocation.
According to the timetable of the Ministry, the invitation to invite tender
will be issued in September and the auction of spectrum will be in November.
The possibility of 5G
service starting in India by 2020
The Telecom Regulatory Authority
of India (TRAI) has recommended spectrum auction of the band of about 8,644 MHz
frequency, which is estimated to be worth 5 lakh rupees (base price). It also
includes radio waves for the 5G service. With the launch of high-speed services
by telecom companies across the world, India also wants to start the 5G service
by 2020.
On the question asked about
any kind of revision in the price of 5G spectrum on the demand of industry by
giving examples of South Korea, the sources said that telecom companies should
expand and upgrade their network through public and rights issues. And they
have to make a similar budget for the 5G spectrum auction fund. The industry
has expressed its inability to buy airwaves at such a high price.
TRAI has recommended a safe
price of Rs 492 crore per megahertz for the 5G spectrum of the 3300-3600 MHz
band, which is for at least 20 MHz all over India. Thus, an operator will have
to repay Rs 9,840 crores, which they consider to be too much.
