Government has issued some
guidelines for setting up of charging stations for e-vehicles across the
country. One thing is clearly mentioned in the guidelines that such charging
stations should be set up at every 25 kilometers. The Union Housing and Urban
Affairs Ministry said in an official statement that the government expects that
by 2030, 25 percent of all vehicles running on the roads will be e-vehicles. In
this case, there is a need to set up infrastructure for charging e-vehicles
across the country.
Provision for setting up the
charging station
The Government has made
provisions for setting up an E-Vehicle Charging Station by amending the Model
Building Bye-Laws and the Urban Area Development Plan Framework and Compliance
Guidelines-2014. According to the statement, these guidelines will be done in
consultation with State Governments and Union Territories in making sub-rules
for such vehicles and infrastructure.
It has been clearly stated
that at least one e-Vehicle Charging station should be built on every 100
kilometers on both sides of the highways for heavy or capable electric
vehicles. The government has also advocated the construction of a charging
station in the residential areas. Also, public charging stations are
recommended to be installed at every 25 kilometers on both sides of the road or
